What is molecular hydrogen?

Hydrogen is the most abundant and the lightest element in the Universe. In various forms, bound to other elements and ions, hydrogen performs many different functions in the body. As a neutral molecule (H2 – molecular hydrogen, also called hydrogen gas) it has an amazing ability to help essentially every organ in the body to stay healthy.

When we talk about H2 we often refer to it in relation to hydrogen-rich drinking water.

What are the benefits of molecular hydrogen?
As a neutral molecule molecular hydrogen (also called hydrogen gas or H2) has an amazing ability to help essentially every organ in the body to stay healthy.

 

In 2007 H2 gained much attention after an article published in a prestigious scientific journal, Nature Medicine. The article suggested that H2 can be considered a novel strategic antioxidant, helping reduce inflammation in the body’s tissues (in cell’s mitochondria – its energy factory) and can be used as an effective antioxidant therapy.

 

When we talk about H2 we often refer to it in relation to hydrogen-rich drinking water.

What research and studies have been done on molecular hydrogen?
Today there are over 700 articles and studies; some of them abstracts but majority double-blind placebo-controlled clinical studies. To date, we know of around 45 human studies as well as those on various tissues and animals.

How to get more molecular hydrogen into my body?
When we talk about molecular hydrogen (also known as H2 or hydrogen gas) we often refer to it in relation to hydrogen-rich drinking water.
There are four main ways how to get more H2:
1/ Our own hydrogen factory (the gut): The body’s designed to produce 10 litres of molecular hydrogen per day. In order for this to work, we have to have the right bacteria strains and eat fibre rich foods. When these foods are broken down the E. coli present in the intestinal tract will eat them. As a by-product of this process (flatulence) we end up with hydrogen, methane and a number of gases. The H2 produced in our gut then can get in through in intestinal tract into the body to reduce oxidative stress.
2/ Drinking water with dissolved H2 gas is the most effective and most accessible method of administration to get additional therapeutic dose of molecular hydrogen which gets absorbed in the intestinal tract / the gut.
3/ Breathing in (inhalation) the hydrogen gas is also an option. It’s aimed to get through the lungs and the blood very quickly to get to the brain faster.
4/ Topically through skin through bathing in water enriched with hydrogen aiming to skin repair.

Is there such thing as taking in too much molecular hydrogen?
When deep diving, for example, we know that a higher percentage of H2 is being taken into the body. On the other hand, the H2 dissolved in water, which is what research and peer-reviewed studies mainly use, is present at 1 or 1 1/2 part per million (or a thousand parts per billion). Although it’s a very small amount of the liquid you’re drinking, it’s very powerful from a therapeutic perspective.

Are there any negative side effects from taking molecular hydrogen?

Is hydrogen water safe?
Yes. Hydrogen gas has been shown to be very safe at concentrations hundreds of times higher than what’s being used for therapy. Here are a few examples:
  • Hydrogen’s safety was first shown in the late 1800s, where hydrogen gas was used to locate gunshot wounds in the intestines. The reports showed that there were never any toxic effects or irritation to even the most sensitive tissues.
  • Hydrogen gas is natural to the body because after a fiber-rich meal reach our gut bacteria can produce liters of hydrogen on a daily basis (which is yet another benefit from eating fruits and vegetables). In short, hydrogen gas is very natural to our bodies, not a foreign or alien substance that can only be synthesized in a chemistry lab.
Doesn’t water already have hydrogen in it?
Yes. The water molecule has two hydrogen atoms, chemically bound to the oxygen atom. This is different from the hydrogen gas molecule (H2), which is just two hydrogen atoms bound only to each other.Here’s an example: we need oxygen (O2) to live, so why can’t we just get our oxygen from drinking water H2O? It’s because the oxygen is chemically tied up in the water molecule. We need available oxygen gas, (O2) that is not bond to other atoms or molecules. By the same token we need the available hydrogen gas (H2).
This is why water isn’t explosive or doesn’t burn. Although, it contains hydrogen, which is flammable, and oxygen, which fire needs to burn, the hydrogen and oxygen are bonded together to form water (H2O). Thus, water isn’t flammable. In fact, H2O is what we use to extinguish fires.
Furthermore, virtually everything has hydrogen atoms in it but those hydrogen atoms are chemically tied up with other things. For example, a water molecule has two hydrogen atoms chemically tied up with the oxygen. Let’s look at another example. Sugar molecule, such as glucose contains 12 hydrogens but those hydrogens are all bound to other carbon and oxygen atoms. In hydrogen water the hydrogen that’s shown to be therapeutic is the available dissolved hydrogen in its diatomic form (= 2 atoms together), called molecular hydrogen.
If water is “hydrogen rich”, then isn’t it acidic?
Great question! If the water is rich in positive hydrogen ions (H+). Then yes it is acidic. But in this case, we’re talking about neutral hydrogen gas (H2), which is two hydrogen atoms tied together. It can be confusing to hear “hydrogen water”. It’s because we usually think of hydrogen (meaning the hydrogen ion, H+) as acidic, and that’s basically the definition of pH.
What does “pH” mean?
pH stands for the “potential of hydrogen”. It’s a measure of hydrogen ion concentration. The p stands for potential or power, meaning a mathematical exponent (in this case a logarithmic function), and the H stands for the hydrogen ion, which is just a proton and no electron. So pH literally means the logarithmic concentration of the hydrogen ion.
Won’t the dissolved hydrogen gas immediately escape out of the water?
Yes, it does immediately start coming out of the water but it doesn’t just vanish immediately. Depending on the surface area, agitation, etc., the hydrogen gas can stay in the water for a few hours or longer before it drops below a therapeutic level. This is much like carbonated water or soda that contains carbon dioxide gas (CO2) but because it does leave, it’s best to drink the water promptly before it goes “flat”.
I read that if you add hydrogen to water, then it makes it hydrogen peroxide, is that true?
Water has the basic chemical formula H2O. Hydrogen peroxide has the chemical formula H2O2, which by comparison contains extra oxygen, not hydrogen. So it does not, indeed it cannot, form hydrogen peroxide. The fact is, hydrogen gas doesn’t bond to or react with the water molecules. It just dissolves into the water. It doesn’t create some novel molecule like H4O, which would be chemically impossible to form anyways. Therefore, hydrogen water and hydrogen peroxide are completely different things.
How is molecular hydrogen (H2) created/produced?
First of all, it’s important to understand that there needs to be a chemistry reaction in water to produce H2. To make as simple as possible, a single water molecule (H2O) is made of two gases – hydrogen and oxygen. Together they form a liquid. So what we’re really aiming for when we want to create molecular hydrogen is separating that liquid back into its gas form – H2 and O.

 

There are two ways of producing hydrogen in water:

Does molecular hydrogen have positive or negative charge?
Many times we hear people talk about positive and negative charges, but the reality is: molecular hydrogen, also called di-atomic Hydrogen, or H2 is neutral. What if H2 wasn’t neutral? The answer is simple: it wouldn’t get into the cells of the body and it wouldn’t be able to react and reach hydroxyl radicals in the cell’s mitochondria = our energy factory. It’s because of its neutrality that it can combine with cell damaging hydroxyl radicals. That’s what makes it so special.

Is drinking/bathing in hydrogen-rich water or breathing in H2 natural?
Is it something Nature intended? The answer is: Absolutely, yes.

 

First of all, H2 is naturally produced in the gut when we eat fibre rich foods.

 

Looking at the world around us, we can also find H2 is produced in some of the natural waters. There are several places around the globe that researchers confirmed as “healing” or “curative” waters. These contain dissolved hydrogen gas (H2). We can specifically name Nordenau, Germany; Tlacote, Mexico; and Hita Tenryosui, Japan.

 

According to Molecular Hydrogen Foundation, the existence of H2 in these springs could be a result of water reacting with alkali-earth metals (e.g. magnesium), or from molecular hydrogen gas-producing bacteria and algae.

What is electrolysis of water?
Electrolysis is a process of using electrical current through electrodes in water to create the separation of H2 and O (again, we’re talking a certain number of molecules).
It was discovered in 1800 by Anthony Carlisle and William Nicholson and is now may years and developments later, it’s also the primary method of mass-producing hydrogen gas for energy.
The most commonly used name for an electrolysis unit used for drinking water is “an ioniser’ or “electrolytic water technology”. A term widely used for water produced by an ioniser “ionised water”. The more correct term would be “electrolysed reduced water” or “electrolysed oxidising water”.

 

An example of the same technology applied in reverse, mainly in industrial applications, are “hydrogen fuel cells”.

What are minerals in water important for electrolysis?
Electrolysis is only effective when a certain level of minerals (electrolytes) are present in water (ideally above 100 parts per million = ppm). These minerals help carry the electrical current.

 

Without minerals dissolved molecular hydrogen can’t be produced through standard electrolysis.

What is a proton exchange membrane?
Proton exchange membrane is an alternative form of electrolysis generator. It’s a great solution to no or low water conductivity. Using polymer membranes instead of titanium/platinum, it has the ability to donate electrolytes to water. In other words, they basically add conductivity to water and in that process produce H2. The type of water unit which uses this mechanism is called a hydrogen infusion machine.

How long does molecular hydrogen stay dissolved in water?
Hydrogen-rich water technology is generally designed to provide households, offices, gyms or yoga studios (etc.) with filtered clean fresh hydrogen-rich water on tap. The actual hydrogen-rich water produced this way isn’t to be sold with the intention of having a long shelf-life.

 

How long the dissolved H2 lasts in your water depends on three factors:

 

1/ Exposure to air
2/ Container material
3/ Temperature

I heard that drinking alkaline water can neutralize excess acid, is that true?
Alkaline water is not a buffer and has low alkalinity. As such, it cannot neutralize very much acid. Many people have seen that just a small amount of soda can easily lower the pH of a gallon (3.7 liters) of alkaline water. To help put this into perspective, consider that 1 tsp of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) can neutralize the same amount of acid as 10,000 liters of alkaline water at a 10pH. This is a primary reason why medical professionals have been skeptical about “alkaline ionized water”. It simply wasn’t well known that the benefit of this water is attributed to the dissolved hydrogen gas until around 2007.
What is micro-clustering? Is it real? Does it really exist?
This has been a way that many of our competitors sell their machines. Micro-clustering is a thought process that water molecules clump together in 11-13 molecules per water cluster but when you go through electrolysis, water clusters only contain 4-6 molecules per cluster. In the 1990s it was proved that it’s just not the case. Water doesn’t cluster like this. Furthermore, this concept is used to teach people that that’s why the water absorbs faster in the system but it’s simply not the case. The reason the water absorbs faster is because of the pH. When you increase pH and the water reaches an empty stomach, it activates the pyloric valve which is pH sensitive. It’ll open and dump the water into the duodenum and then into the small intestine. We need to understand the science behind this because micro-clustering isn’t at all real science. It’s a marketing term that was started to sell machines.
What is Echo Water?
AlkalineEcho® water’s water that has first been deeply filtered to remove metals, pesticides, chlorine, VOC’s, pharmaceuticals and many other things that you don’t want in your water. After it goes through this multistage filtration it runs through an electrolysis chamber. The reason we use electrolysis is to dissolve molecular hydrogen (H2). We want hydrogen dissolved in our water because since 1798 it’s been known to reduce oxidative stress on the body. Many, if not all, of the diseases that people contract in life are caused by oxidative stress. So hydrogen can be called an antioxidant but really it reduces oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. Echo® water’s basically a delivery mechanism of hydrogen gas to the body and we’re filtering all the toxins out of the water.
Does Echo® water have any taste?
Some people say Echo® water’s the best water they’ve ever had. Echo® water’s tasteless as clean water should have no taste. The only thing that gives water a taste are contaminants such as chemicals, metals or minerals that shouldn’t be in the water. Typically, the only time when there’d be a taste issue would be due to poor filtration.
Can the Echo® unit be used with any water source type? Example, well, municipal for reverse osmosis?
Yes, you can use an Echo® unit with any type of water. In some cases, with reverse osmosis water we may need to add minerals back into the water. We have a filter available that will do this at no cost to you. If you have municipal water, there’s nothing that you’ll need to do. Our filtration system has everything you need to remove metals, pesticides and most of the fluoride. We also have an additional filter to remove 100% of the fluoride. When it comes to well water, you want to make sure your water is tested every year. As long as your water is drinkable then you can use it with the Echo® unit. In some cases, you may have high Iron, Manganese or Sulfur. In those cases we’d strongly recommend getting a filter for your whole home designed specifically to get those out. The Echo® filter will stop 1 part per million of Sulfur and Iron but if you have more than this amount, it will get through the machine.
If Echo® focuses on Hydrogen, why does the machine say Alkaline and Acidic water?
The benefits of the water come from the dissolved hydrogen, the h2 gas, or what’s called molecular hydrogen. The water coming out of the machine is higher than 7 pH so therefore it is referenced as alkaline water. The water lower than 7pH so is referenced as acidic water. Our Echo® alkaline water has hydrogen dissolved in it but that’s not the case with all alkaline water. Just because a company’s selling alkaline water doesn’t mean the water has hydrogen in it. Echo® focuses our message on hydrogen because that’s where the benefit comes from. It has been proven through many hundreds of studies.
Can I store Echo® water to take on the go? How long will the hydrogen last in a container?
Yes! It will depend on the container used and the temperature stored. The larger the volume, the longer the hydrogen will stay in the water. You should fill your container all the way to the top with NO air space. Make sure to close the container tightly. Once you open the container to drink for the first time, it will obviously leave that air space. It’s recommended at that point to try and consume the rest within 2-4 hours.However, if you’re going away and you keep a container filled to the top with no air space, it can last up to 10 days. It’s best to keep chilled in a glass bottle in order to keep the hydrogen the longest.
Does the hydrogen stay in Echo® water if you freeze it?
Yes, but how much is uncertain. Hydrogen is a gas so it can escape even when frozen. Remember hydrogen can get through steel, metal, glass or plastic. So it can definitely get through frozen water. We don’t really know how much hydrogen would stay in if you made ice cubes.Some Yes! It will depend on the container used and the temperature stored. Is Echo® water structured water?
Yes, Structured water is an interesting term; some people refer to it as micro-clustered water. If you’re referring to the part where people say “because the water is running through minerals or adding energy or frequencies into the water and therefore are changing the structure of the water”, then yes Echo® water is structured. It does have energy and frequencies in it, we also have tourmaline in our filter which means that far infrared energy is added into the water. If you’re talking about micro-clustering or changing the water molecule shape or size, then no, we don’t teach this because it’s false science.
I travel a lot, can I take my machine with me?
Yes, you can. Our machines can fit into your hand/carry-on luggage so you can put it right in an overhead locker when on a plane.
How can I get hydrogen-rich water when I’m away from home?
Yes, you can. Our machines can fit into your hand/carry-on luggage so you can put it right in an overhead locker when on a plane.You can either take your machine with you or use our Echo® H2 drops or tablets that can be useful for travel. You can just put the tablet in a bottle of water you’re purchasing when you’re travelling and use one or two doses a day. This way you can have your hydrogen water while you travel.
How soon after I start drinking Echo® water will I experience benefits?
There’s no science behind this so it will depend on the individual. Those with medical issues should experience benefits more quickly. If a person is chronically dehydrated they will experience the benefits almost immediately. It’s really a case-by-case basis and can vary between minutes, hours or days.
What level of Echo® water should I drink?
When you first buy your machine you should start at level 1 for one week. You would then move to level 2 in the second week. If you were to choose one level to drink continuously, it would be level 2. Some people like to drink level 3 or 4 which is fine, but you need to be careful that you’re not consuming water higher than a 10pH as that can cause issues. If your water is higher than 10pH you can also add a few lemon juice drops to lower the pH level. You can safely mix all 4 levels equally in a glass to get more hydrogen.
Do the different levels of the Echo® water offer different benefits?
Yes, they do. There are 4 levels of both Alkaline and Acidic water. As the levels increase so does the potency. On the alkaline side it increases the hydrogen that’s dissolved but it increases the pH. Increasing the levels of acidic water increases the killing power. You really don’t need to go higher than 3 to feel comfortable in the killing spectrum.
Can I take medications with Echo® water?
As long as your medication is not time release you will be fine. Time release medications are a 2 part pill designed to resist an acid environment because the stomach is very acidic. Higher pH level water will dissolve the pill very quickly and you will no longer have time release. Any other medications are perfectly safe to use with Echo water.
Can I mix other ingredients into Echo® water? Ex. Lemon, Drink flavor drops?
Yes, you can mix ingredients to change the taste of the water. The amount of hydrogen that would be dislodged by this would be minimal. Enjoy your water!
How long does it take to process an international order?
The time from which you complete the transaction to getting your machine the process doesn’t take more than a few days. The order processing is usually done within 24 hours and our shipping it is typically two days to get it anywhere in the world. The shipment is usually subject to local custom fees, depending on the country of delivery. This could add an extra day. On average, our international customers outside of the USA should get their machine within 3-4 days. There’s free shipping for all orders above USD750.
Do I receive a tracking number once I’ve ordered?
Yes, we use DHL for all shipments and you always get a tracking number. If, for some reason, you think you haven’t, please check your spam email folder. If nothing has been received there please contact our customer service who’ll be able to help.
How do I know what duty I’ll be charged?
This will depend on the destination and you should check directly with Customs in your country on what the regulations are. All our products are sent directly from the USA.
How long does it take before I get my order?
It usually takes up to 2-3 days. For more information on international orders see the question “How long does it take to process an international order?”
If I move to a new home, can I take my Echo® unit with me?
Definitely! It’s very easy to disconnect and take it with you. It’ll only take a few minutes. The above counter unit you simply disconnect. If you have an under counter unit, remove your faucet and simply replace it with a soap dispenser. Echo® also offers a move program that is very inexpensive, where you can have one of our installers professionally install the unit at your new home.
How soon after my purchase will my Echo® unit be installed?
Your installation’s based on you and your assigned installer. As soon as we ship out your Echo® unit we will also send out a work order to one of our installers. They will then contact you and together you both will come up with a date and time that works best.

What kind of maintenance will I have to do for the Echo® machine?
If you have a counter top machine, there is no maintenance that you will do. The machine is designed to drain every time you use it. When you turn it back on it will refill. The electrodes swap after every use so that way no minerals can build up in the electrolysis chamber.If you have an under counter unit, you still have the reversing of the cathode and anode so you’ll never have to worry about mineral build up in the electrolysis chamber. There’s a 5/16th inch tube that goes from the top of the machine up to the faucet. That tube will have water in it all the time. Typically, if you don’t run the acid water through it regularly it can build up some calcium deposits. It’s good to either on a weekly basis run the level 4 acidic water through to clean it out. You can also disconnect the tube and run some vinegar through it and let it sit for about 20 minutes once a year.
If the EPA suggests that I test my well water annually, how do I go about doing so?
There are online companies that have testing available. You can also go to a local hardware store and pick up a little vile and an address where you ship them for testing. It’s very easy to test your well water from a reliable source.
What things will the Echo® filter remove from the water?
The Echo® filter removes over 99% of pesticides, fluoride, chlorine, chloramines, bacteria, viruses and algae. It also removes 99% of soluble metals such as mercury, lead, nickel, copper, chromium and arsenic. The Echo® filter also stops scale build-up including lime.

When do I need a prefilter?
You’ll need a pre-filter to the Echo® machine if you have unusually high levels of fluoride, TDS, sulfur, iron, and or other naturally occurring elements in the water. If you’re sourcing from Municipal Water, you can find your water quality report by searching on Google to determine this.If you’re sourcing from well water, it’s best to have your well tested every year to check the levels of elements and contaminants to be able to gage which pre-filter you might need, if any.

Why is the Echo® unit so expensive?
We believe the machine is fairly priced in comparison to our competitors. We build a quality product as well as cover installation, shipping and return shipping if there’s ever an issue. It comes with a forever warranty that covers all parts and service. The machine itself has over 20 patents that protect our technology. We have 9 electrodes in the machine (Echo® 9/H2 Ultra) with five layers of platinum on them. The entire system has a computer and electronic boards inside. Remember you’re buying a machine that performs electrolysis and that’s where you’re spending your money.
Do you offer payment plan options if I cannot afford to pay all at once?
Yes, we do. We have a great financing program with a 3rd party financer in the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Your payments can be as low as around USD30/GBP30 a month. Typically you spend more money on bottled water each month than this low monthly payment for the Echo® unit.
How much money do I save by purchasing an Echo system?
Well, it depends. Many people who buy bottled water are spending USD30-50/month and that’s just drinking water, excluding cooking. So, typically people who are buying water for drinking purposes, they are still cooking their vegetables in unfiltered water, having chlorine and other contaminants in their food. Having the Echo® system in their home will save them money in the long run. More importantly, it improves health because you’re going to cook with it, clean with it and drink it. That way you’re covering everything for the most important part. And, furthermore, in addition to saving money, there’s 24,500 harmful chemicals in a bottled of water, a plastic bottle of water. Why drink that?
What else will I need to spend money on after I’ve bought my machine?
You’ll need to change the filter every 3785 liters and then every 6 months to a year (see “How long do the internal filters for each system last?”)
I hear you also offer a cleaning kit, what is it good for?
It’s good to use the little cleaning kit or every time you clean the filter or do a filter replacement. It’s good to just for maintenance perspective to use the cleaning kit. It’s available for about USD7.95. Although there’s no calcium build up in the electrodes, there can be some build up over time in the pipes which go through the machine. Using the cleaning kit will help remove it.

What should I consider before buying a hydrogen-enriched water system?
What should I consider before buying a hydrogen-enriched water system?There are a few things but it really depends on what your needs are in terms of water usage. Do you only want a solution for your drinking water or do you want to have a more eco friendly household or business as well? Should you also have a basic idea about whether the water in your area is softer or harder and if it contains fluoride, in case you need additional filtration or a remineralisation filter.
What makes Echo® better than any other company?
The focus of Echo® is on molecular hydrogen which is based on science, unlike alkaline water which has no science on helping anyone. How does the Echo® water compare to Kangen® water?
First of, Echo® doesn’t want to talk negatively about our competitors. However, since a lot of people ask this question, we have to answer it. Kangen® is a good machine.
Hydrogen production and installation
When Kangen® machines are brand new they produce hydrogen just like the Echo® machines in water with which is rich in minerals (harder). However, in about 2 weeks time the Kangen® machine will produce enough mineral build up that it will require cleaning. In their warranty they’ll tell you that you’ll need to clean their machine every 2 weeks. If it isn’t cleaned it will no longer produce dissolved hydrogen. With the Echo® machines you never have to clean it to have dissolved hydrogen.
Shipping, installation and warranty
Echo® has a Forever warranty that covers parts, labor and shipping. On top of that, we install your unit for free, if this is what you need. Enagic doesn’t offer installation and it doesn’t offer various installation solutions world wide (under counter options). Kangen® has a 5 year warranty and after the 5 years you’ll have to pay for 3 year warranty extensions in the USA. Extension isn’t available outside of the USA. You will also be responsible for installing your own unit and pay the shipping.
Filtration
Our filtration system is also much better. We have a 9 stage filter that removes pesticides, chlorine, bacteria, viruses, chloramines, fungus, algae and 50% fluoride. It also removes 99% of soluble metals such as mercury, lead, nickel, copper, chromium and arsenic and stops scale build up including lime. Kangen® has a carbon filter and calcium sulfite.
Business model
We aren’t a multi level marketing company. Echo® has cleaner toxin free water with focus on hydrogen production at half the price. That’s the difference!
What type of Echo® machine is the best for me?
It depends on how you’re gonna use it. The Echo 9 Ultra H2 machine makes drinking water and cleaning water and the other 3 hydrogen efficient machines we offer make drinking water only. So if someone just wants drinking water, they can choose one of those hydrogen efficient machines that are less expensive. If they want to use it for cleaning and use the hypochlorous acid water for eyes, for face, for mouth, for skin and to have a chemical free kitchen then they will benefit more from the The Echo 9 Ultra H2.
What if I already have a RO system in my house?
If you have a Reverse Osmosis system typically under the sink then the best machine for you would be the hydrogen water server. That combines perfectly to your reverse osmosis. You don’t need to change anything other than add that in after the RO Tank in between the RO Faucet. There is no maintenance and it is designed to work with reverse osmosis water.
I’ve heard that solid electrodes are the better than mesh plates. Is that true?
Not at all. In fact, it’s the opposite. Solid electrodes are old technology. They are much much more inefficient than other proprietary electro design. The electro design that we have is about into design and it is 10x more efficient than a solid electro. It comes down to the electric burden on the electrode itself. So when you’re trying to push electricity through a metal plate, having a solid electrode has more of a burden to push out electricity across than does of a different design plate that has more places for the electricity to go but what typically happens on solid electrode is you have a river of electricity where electricity will follow the path of least resistance across the surface of a plate and so it will burn in a little area and once it starts going that way it will continue going that way.So you only have the electrolysis happening in that area of the electrode. Our electrode design forces the electricity out over the entire surface of the electrode so you get more contact surface area. That’s the big difference: the contact surface area.Just like years ago when vehicles needed more air filter capacity because the engines were more demanding. Instead of making a bigger filter, they pleaded the filter to give more surface area but in smaller contained area. Ant that’s what happened to electro design over the years. They haven’t gotten bigger, they’ve gotten smaller and more efficient and that’s definitely the technology we use. In our machine, the Echo 9 Ultra H2, we have 2 solid electrode which we call bookends at the very end of the electrolysis chamber and then all the seven electrodes between them are a proprietary design. We could use solid electrode if we wanted to but it’s not as efficient. It doesn’t produce much hydrogen and they get overheated over time and they wear out faster. So the proprietory design that we have poses them to last longer and is far more efficient in hydrogen production.
Does the size of the electrodes matter? Is the bigger always better?
No. The architecture or the design of the electrode is far more important than the size of it. Now, if you have two electrodes that were identical architecture or design and you made one bigger then yes. It would be more efficient than the smaller one when it’s identical. In our case, our machine’s engineered for hydrogen production at a certain flow rate that is going through our machine. So we design the electrode size based on the chamber size that we want to do and how much water is flowing through per minute. So that we can have optimum hydrogen dissolving rate. The more electrode you put in, the higher the PH can go. We don’t want higher PH, we want lower PH but optimum hydrogen dissolving rate. That’s the way we designed our machine.
What does the Echo® warranty cover?
Our warranty is forever on the Echo® 9 / H2 Ultra and 5 years on the NHM-130/UHM machine and the Hydrogen module. The Synergy Science Whole house system has also a 5 year warranty. It’s worldwide so that it covers our customers no matter where they are.

Technical FAQs

What is Echo® Water?

This could be a few different things. It could be that the power cord is not pushed in all the way, the GFI outlet or the breaker may have tripped, or the machines fuse could be blown.

My filter is leaking, what do I do?
Usually it’s just not installed correctly and doing it again will fix the issue. Remove the filter and reinstall it from the bottom first. There is a black O ring on the top and bottom that seals the filter so if the rings are damaged you will need to order a replacement. Every few years you will want to put some grease on the O ring to keep it soft.
I see white flakes in my cup, why?
This is calcium carbonate, which forms from the minerals in the water. It is normal that the minerals can precipitate out of the water. 100% of your water content is flowing into the unit, but the minerals are concentrated into the Alkaline water, which is only 2/3 of the water coming out. This higher concentration has increased the chance for them to precipitate out naturally and they will bond to the glass. The calcium is not harmful to you and can be easily cleaned from glass using vinegar.
Is this water safe for my body if it leaves residue on my glass?
Yes, it is completely safe. No different than taking a calcium supplement.
Can I make this machine stop talking to me?
Yes. All you need to do is lower the volume. Depending on what unit you are using the process will vary. 1. ULTRA – Press the settings button, go to volume, and turn in down. 2. ECHO 9 – With the unit in standby mode, press the “Filter” sensor and then press the “Acidic” sensor to lower the volume all the way down. Press the power sensor to exit the programming mode and save the change. 3. ECHO 7 – With the unit in standby mode, press the “Filter” sensor and then press the “Acidic” sensor to lower the volume all the way down. Press the power sensor to exit the programming mode and save the change.
My machine feels like it is warm, is that normal?

Typically, your water temperature will not differ much from your tap water temperature. If your machine feels warm that could be an indicator that your voltage settings are higher than needed for the conductivity of your source water and may prompt you to turn the voltage down. Contact customer support for assistance in lowering your voltage settings. 800-337-7017

Why is the water coming out of my machine not cold?
Typically, the temperature of the source water will not vary much from the water coming out of the machine. If it does it could just be that the voltage is too high for the conductivity of your water. It could also mean that the water is flowing too slowly through the machine.

 

How do I know when it is time to change my filter?
On all of our units, except for the NHM-130, there is a filter change indicator. There’s a chip in the filter that communicates with the unit and monitors how many gallons have passed through it. On the ULTRA, you can see the filter life measured in liters on the bottom, left of the screen. The unit will also speak to you when it is time to change the filter and say, “please change filter”. It’s important to follow the instructions and change the filters when necessary. Once a filer has expired, the machine will only turn on for 10 seconds and then shut itself off. The NHM-130 has a date placement on the actual filter where you will write the day you replaced it so you can keep track of the months. The CB filter is every 6 mos. UF filter is every 12 mos.

 

Why does my water taste funny?
We get this question from people and our next question is what do you mean by funny? It’s difficult to answer that question unless we know specifically what it tastes like. You would need to reach out to customer support for further assistance.
Can I get my water to flow out any faster?
It depends on the unit you have. If you have the Ultra with good pressure coming into the system, then no. If you are talking about the Server or the UHM that is connected to a RO system, then yes. By increasing the pressure inside the RO holding tank to at least 11 – 13 pounds of pressure (PSI) then you will greatly increase the flow. Typical RO tanks are on 4-6 PSI and that is fine but not when you are running it through our machines.
I put my new filter in and it still says I need a new one. What do I do?
If you’re talking about the Ultra or the Echo 9, there is a chip on the back of the filter that talks to the unit. There is an arrow at the top of the filter that must be aligned with the arrow at the top of the filter compartment. If you have an Echo 7, then you can reset the filter manually by holding the alkaline button for 4 seconds while the unit is in standby.
Why is my unit saying, “low pressure”?
This can be many things. First you will want to check the water source. You will need to trace your white source water line back to a valve and shut it off. Then disconnect your source water line from the bottom of the machine and place the line into a bowl. Slowly turn the source water valve back on and if it pours into the bowl you will know that water was getting to the machine. If that’s not the issue then you’ll want to check the voltage settings. If they’re too high for the conductivity of the water it may create calcium that can lead to clogged solenoids and blocked water flow. In this case, we’d need to lower the settings and use a cleaning kit. If there were a failure in the main solenoid, no water would enter the machine, and it would need to come in for repair. In some cases, your source water pressure may be too high for the machine to function properly. Too much incoming pressure would stop the main solenoid from opening. There would need to be a pressure regulator installed on either the house or the source water line before the machine.
How many PPM will I get with Echo H2 tablets.
If used correctly, you could get up to 1.5 to 2 PPM.
How many PPM will I get with Echo H2 drops?
If you are using the drops with bottled water that already has electrolytes added then you can get up to 1.5 to 2 PPM. In distilled water, you will need to add citric acid. We provide citric acid drops upon request or you can also use lemon juice.
How many PPM will I get with my Echo machine?
That is a good question and will be different based on what machine you have and what your source water is. The 3 hydrogen infusion machines (SERVER, UHM & NHM-130) will all produce from .8- 1.3 PPM and will vary slightly depending on your source water. The ULTRA is dependent on minerals being in the source water. If you have at least 75-100 ppm of TDS then the machine will produce a lot of hydrogen. In the H2 drinking water, it will be from .8 – 1.5 PPM depending on the conductivity of the water. Typically, .8- 1 PPM. With the alkaline water, each level will increase. Level 2 can be up to 1.5 PPM when the water has plenty of minerals. Level 4 can be as high as 2.5 – 3 PPM. Keep in mind these numbers will always vary depending on your source water. Also, keep in mind that you only need .5 PPM to receive the therapeutic benefits. If you drink 4 16 oz. glasses of hydrogen water at 1 PPM, then that is 4 PPM to the body because there is a stacking effect.
What should the ORP be?
ORP is really an unimportant measurement and typically relates more to the Ph than Hydrogen. But, with alkaline water you would have an ORP ranging from –600- -800. With the H2 water you would have around -400 and the same with the Hydrogen water units. But keep in mind that ORP is unimportant when it comes to showing that there are antioxidant properties in the water.
My unit makes a gurgling sound/flows irregularly...is it working?
This is normal with the first generation Ultra when you select the H2 water. If you use the Alkaline function first and then switch to the H2 function, then you should have no gurgling sound. But yes, it is normal and yes, it is working properly.
Water is only coming out of one spout on my faucet, why?
That could be a few things. If you have the ULTRA and are using the H2 function then it’s completely normal. If there’s water only coming out of the bottom spout then that means there may be some calcium built up somewhere in the water line (3ft under sink) and would you need to use the cleaning kit.
What should my pH be on each level?

This will be based on the conductivity of the water. You should have at least have at least 50-70 TDS. If your source water is neutral (typically 7 – 7.2 Ph) then Level 1 would be a 8, level 2 would be a 9, level 3 would be a 10 and level 4 would be a 10+.

The higher the conductivity and the higher the voltage settings are on the unit, then the higher the Ph will be. The H2 water will keep the same Ph as your source water.

How do I start up my server or UHM?
After the initial installation of the unit, you’ll have to press the start button (S). Once you open the faucet water will flow through the machine. If you ever lose power to the unit you will always have to press start (S) to make the unit function again.
My digital faucet is not working, but I can use the front of my machine fine, Why?
This can be a few things. First, you’ll need to be sure the faucet wire is plugged securely into the back of your unit. If that connection is good, then the faceplate may have lifted from the faucet. This will cause the faucet not to function properly as they are not actual buttons, but heat sensors. The distance cannot change from the sensor to the faceplate or it will not read the heat from your fingertips. In this case you will need to send the faucet in for repair.
My Hydrogen Water Server(HWS) or Undersink Hydrogen Machine(UHM) is beeping, why?
This is telling you that it is time to replace the filter. On these units, you can set them for 4, 6 or 12 months to remind you to replace it. To turn it off you can just press the filter button (F).
I’ve turned on my Hdrogen Water Server or Undersink Hydrogen Machine but can only fill some of my cup and it stops, why?
In this case we will need to check the voltage on the unit because the conductivity is probably too high. The machine is turning itself off to prevent damage so we would need to reduce the voltage and the machine should function properly.
